Public restrooms and showers

By Kaden Ewald, Editor Last updated How we verify

Key facts

Five beach accesses on Amelia Island have restrooms we have confirmed: Main Beach Park, Seaside Park, Peters Point, Burney Park and Fort Clinch. Three have a confirmed outdoor shower. The street accesses along Fletcher Avenue have neither, which is the single most useful thing to know before parking at one.

Our picks

Main Beach Park

Fernandina Beach Oceanside · free

Fernandina Beach's busiest and most amenity-heavy oceanfront park, at the east end of Atlantic Avenue. Large free parking lot, restrooms, playground, volleyball, and food and mini-golf across the street — the default choice for a family beach day on Amelia Island.

Seaside Park

Fernandina Beach Oceanside · free

A compact City of Fernandina Beach oceanfront park at the east end of Sadler Road, with a free lot, restrooms, a dune boardwalk and a small playground. The closest full-facility beach to the middle of the island and the usual overflow from Main Beach.

Peters Point Beachfront Park

The South End · free

Nassau County's largest south-end beach park, off Fletcher Avenue near Sadler Road's southern reach. Big free lot, restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic pavilions and a long boardwalk over the dunes — the south end's answer to Main Beach, usually with more room.

Details unconfirmed

Burney Park

American Beach · free

A Nassau County beach park at American Beach on the island's south end, with a free lot, restrooms, picnic pavilions and a dune walkover. The practical parking and facilities for anyone visiting American Beach and the NaNa dune.

Fort Clinch Beach and Fishing Pier

Old Town Fernandina

Two beaches inside Fort Clinch State Park at Amelia Island's northern tip: Atlantic surf on the east side and calmer water by the jetties on the north, plus a fishing pier looking across Cumberland Sound to Georgia. Inside the park entry fee.

Details unconfirmed

North Beach

Old Town Fernandina · free

The stretch of Amelia Island shoreline north of Main Beach toward the Fort Clinch jetties, reached from the northern Fletcher Avenue accesses. Wide, quiet sand with a working-port view, no facilities, and the island's strongest currents near the jetties.

Scott Road Beach Access

Fernandina Beach Oceanside · free

A small Nassau County beach access off Scott Road on the island's oceanside, with a modest free lot and a dune walkover but no restrooms or showers. One of the accesses used for permitted beach driving.

Details unconfirmed

Amelia Island State Park

The South End

Two hundred undeveloped acres at the island's southern tip on Nassau Sound: beach, dune, marsh and maritime forest, with no buildings and no lifeguards. The only Florida state park offering guided horseback riding on the beach.

Where these are on the island

A short page that answers one question, and distinguishes three states rather than two: confirmed yes, confirmed no, and not confirmed either way. The third is not the same as the second, and pretending otherwise is how a guide sends a family to a car park with nothing at it.

Confirmed restrooms

  • Main Beach Park — restrooms and an outdoor shower. Free paved lot, boardwalk, playground, picnic tables, and the island's only confirmed seasonal lifeguard. The busiest access, and the lot fills on summer weekends.
  • Seaside Park — restrooms and an outdoor shower. Free lot, boardwalk, picnic tables, playground.
  • Peters Point Beachfront Park — restrooms and an outdoor shower. Free lot, boardwalk, picnic tables, on the south end.
  • Burney Park at American Beach — restrooms confirmed; shower not confirmed either way. Free lot, boardwalk, picnic tables.
  • Fort Clinch beach and pier — restrooms confirmed near the beach areas and at the campgrounds; shower not confirmed. Paid lot: park entry applies, and we do not publish the fee because we have not confirmed it.

Confirmed to have none

  • North Beach — no restrooms, no shower, street parking.
  • Scott Road beach access — no restrooms, no shower, limited parking, but there is a boardwalk over the dune.
  • The street accesses along South Fletcher Avenue — no restrooms, no showers. These are the numbered walkways between houses, and they are the ones people park at by accident.

This is the practical point of the whole page. The Fletcher Avenue accesses are the easiest to find and the least equipped. If anyone in your group will need a restroom within the hour, drive the extra few minutes to a park with a lot.

Not confirmed either way

  • Amelia Island State Park at the southern tip — restrooms not confirmed, shower confirmed as none. Two hundred undeveloped acres with limited parking; assume nothing and plan for nothing.

Downtown

We hold no confirmed public restroom in the downtown historic district. There will be facilities in the businesses along Centre Street, but a customer restroom is not a public one and we are not going to list somebody's café as an amenity. The harbour marina is the obvious candidate and we have not confirmed it.

Why this page is hedged

Every "confirmed" above means a field in our own beach records that a human checked. Every "not confirmed" means nobody has, and the record says null rather than false. We would rather show you the gap: a family that drives to Burney Park expecting a shower and finds none has been misled by a guide that guessed, and that is a worse outcome than being told to expect nothing.

If you find one of these wrong, tell us — that page exists for exactly this.
