Scott Road is a beach access rather than a beach park, and the distinction matters: you get a way onto the sand and a place to leave the car, and that is the offer.
It sits off Scott Road on the ocean side of the island, between the Fernandina Beach city accesses to the north and the Nassau County parks to the south. The lot is small and free, there is a dune walkover, and there are no restrooms, no showers and no shade.
Why you would choose it
Space on the sand. Because there are no facilities, there is no reason for anyone to spend a whole day here, and the crowd density is correspondingly low. If your beach requirement is sand and quiet rather than sand and a restroom, this is a better use of an afternoon than fighting for a Main Beach space.
Beach driving. Scott Road is one of the accesses associated with permitted vehicle access to the beach on Amelia Island. Beach driving here is allowed only at designated ramps under Nassau County rules covering tyre pressure, speed limits, where you may park on the sand, and seasonal restrictions. Those rules change and are enforced. Tracks in the sand are not permission — check the county's current rules before you drive on, and do not assume this access is open to vehicles on the day you arrive.
What to bring
Everything. There is no water, no restroom, no rinse shower and no shade at this access. That means water, sun cover, and a plan for the drive home with sandy passengers.
Who should go elsewhere
Families with small children, anyone who needs a restroom within a reasonable walk, and anyone who wants lunch nearby. Main Beach Park and Peters Point both solve all of that.
Practical notes
No lifeguards. Dogs on a leash, per the applicable city or county rules for this stretch — and there is no off-leash beach on the island.
Sea turtle nesting season runs roughly May through October, and it is particularly relevant at a driving access: vehicle tracks and nests are a bad combination, which is part of why the county's rules include seasonal provisions. Fill in holes, remove gear at the end of the day, keep off marked nests.
Getting there
Off Fletcher Avenue via Scott Road, oceanside. It is a residential area — read the parking signs on the surrounding streets rather than assuming the verge is fair game.
