Main Beach Park
The full-service beach day: parking, restrooms, playground and lunch across the street.
Amelia Island has thirteen miles of Atlantic beach and roughly ten public accesses, and they differ far more in parking and facilities than in sand. Dogs are allowed on a leash island-wide with no off-leash beach; lifeguards are seasonal and limited to specific accesses.
Amelia Island is thirteen miles long and the beach runs almost the whole of its Atlantic side. What differs between accesses is not the sand — it is uniformly wide, firm and grey-gold — but the parking, the facilities and the crowd.
That makes choosing a beach here a practical question rather than an aesthetic one, which is why this page leads with a table rather than a photograph.
Main Beach Park if you want amenities: free paved parking, restrooms, showers, a playground and food across the street. It is also the busiest.
Peters Point Beachfront Park if Main Beach is full — a bigger Nassau County footprint on the south end, with restrooms and showers but no playground.
Amelia Island State Park at the southern tip if you want nobody around, shelling, shore fishing, or the only beach horseback riding in the Florida state park system.
Fort Clinch State Park if you want a beach with something to do next to it: two beaches, a fishing pier, and an 1847 fort.
Dogs are allowed on the ocean beaches on a leash, and there is no off-leash beach anywhere on Amelia Island. Lifeguard coverage is seasonal and limited to specific accesses — never assume a guard is on duty. Sea turtle nesting runs roughly May through October, when filling in holes, removing gear from the sand overnight and staying off marked nests all stop being courtesies and start being rules.
Beach driving is permitted at designated ramps only, under Nassau County rules covering tyre pressure, speed and parking. Tracks in the sand are not permission.
Amelia Island faces east. The ocean side gets the sunrise; the sunset happens on the river side, downtown. Visitors who plan a sunset beach picnic on the Atlantic side are looking the wrong way.
