Seaside Park is the beach most visitors drive past on the way to Main Beach and should probably have stopped at.
It sits at the eastern end of Sadler Road, the road that carries most of the island's cross-island traffic, which makes it the easiest beach to reach from almost anywhere on Amelia Island — the resorts to the south, downtown to the north, and the bridges to the west all funnel onto Sadler.
What is here
A City of Fernandina Beach park with the essentials and not much more: a free paved lot, restrooms, a dune boardwalk to the sand, picnic tables and a small playground. It is noticeably smaller than Main Beach Park in every dimension, which is both its limitation and its appeal.
The parking maths
The lot is the constraint. It is smaller than Main Beach's and it fills earlier on a summer weekend, with street parking on the surrounding roads absorbing some overflow — read the signs carefully, because the residential streets nearby have restrictions.
The trade-off is that when Main Beach's lot is full and circling, Seaside is a two-minute drive south and often has a space that has just opened up. It turns over faster because people come for a couple of hours rather than a full day.
The beach itself
Wide, firm, gently sloping — the same sand as the rest of the island's Atlantic side. The dune line here is well vegetated and the boardwalk keeps you off it.
Because the park is small, the crowd concentrates tightly around the access. Walk two minutes north or south and you have space, which is the same trick that works at every Fernandina access.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants a couple of hours on the sand with a restroom nearby and does not need a playground, volleyball courts and lunch across the street. Families with very young children are better served by Main Beach; everyone else is well served here.
Practical notes
There is very little shade — a few picnic tables and that is it. Bring an umbrella in summer.
Lifeguard coverage on the island is seasonal and limited to specific accesses; do not assume a guard is here. Dogs are permitted on a leash under city rules, and there is no off-leash beach anywhere on Amelia Island.
Sea turtle nesting runs roughly May through October. Fill in any holes you dig, take your gear off the sand at the end of the day, and stay off marked nests.
Getting there
East to the end of Sadler Road. From downtown Fernandina Beach it is about eight minutes; from the Omni or the Ritz-Carlton about seven or eight minutes north. The Amelia Island Trail runs nearby, so cycling in avoids the parking question entirely.
