Playgrounds and Parks on Amelia Island

By Kaden Ewald, Editor Last updated How we verify

Key facts

Main Beach Park has the playground that matters — free lot, restrooms, boardwalk and the island’s only confirmed seasonal lifeguard. Three commercial play operators run alongside it, and the beach at low tide is the best free playground on the island.

The most useful thing on this page is not a business.

The beach at low tide

The tidal range here is 6 to 7.4 ft and the beach is very flat, so at low water the sea retreats a long way and leaves wadeable shallows over the exposed sandbars — warm, calm, ankle-to-knee deep. For a small child that is better than any playground on the island, it is free, and it exists for a few hours twice a day.

Plan around the tide rather than the clock. One warning that matters: on a sandbar the flood comes in behind you rather than at you, so do not let the water get between you and the beach.

Main Beach Park

Main Beach Park is the family access and the one with a playground. Confirmed: free paved lot, restrooms, boardwalk over the dune, playground, picnic tables, and seasonal lifeguards — the only access on the island we have confirmed as guarded. It is also the busiest, and the lot fills on summer weekends.

Alternatives with a confirmed free lot, restrooms and a boardwalk but no confirmed playground: Seaside Park, Peters Point and Burney Park. See beaches for families.

The other free ones

Egans Creek Greenway — three hundred acres of flat, free, pushchair-friendly marsh trail with alligators visible from the path. Genuinely thrilling at four years old. Keep well back from the water edges and keep a firm hold: the channels come right to the trail.

Fort Clinch State Park — a parade ground to run on, ramparts and tunnels to climb, and enough space that noise is nobody's problem. Simmons Road Park and the Atlantic Recreation Center are city facilities; we have not confirmed their hours or what they hold.

The commercial ones

Three play operators are listed below with confirmed contact details. What each actually offers — indoor, outdoor, age ranges, party bookings — is exactly what we have not confirmed, so ring them. Mini golf is the other reliable wet-afternoon option.

Summer, practically

July averages 90.7°F with matching humidity and a thunderstorm most afternoons. The shape of a good day is beach on the low tide in the morning, indoors or shaded from mid-afternoon, out again in the evening. See Amelia Island with toddlers.

We publish no prices, times or durations for any operator on this site, because we have confirmed none. The address, telephone number and official website below were checked against each operator's own listing on 10 September 2026 — ring them.

What is the best free thing to do with small children on Amelia Island?
The beach at low tide. The 6 to 7 ft range exposes sandbars that give warm, calm, ankle-deep shallows, which beats any playground here — and the Egans Creek Greenway is three hundred acres of flat, free trail with alligators visible from the path.
Which Amelia Island beach has facilities for children?
Main Beach Park: free paved lot, restrooms, boardwalk, playground, picnic tables and seasonal lifeguards. Seaside Park, Peters Point and Burney Park have the lot, restrooms and boardwalk with fewer people but no confirmed playground or lifeguard.
