The Omni is the default answer to "where do families stay on Amelia Island", and the reason is scale: it is a self-contained resort where a week can happen without the car leaving the lot.
It sits on the island's south end, inside the large planned community formerly branded Amelia Island Plantation, with the Atlantic on one side and salt marsh on the other. The footprint includes the main oceanfront hotel, villa accommodation spread through the property, golf, tennis, a spa, several pools and a set of restaurants and bars.
What it is good at
Families, golf trips and anyone who wants the beach without a drive to it. The nature centre and the marsh-side activity programme are a genuine differentiator — this is a resort that puts effort into the ecology of the site rather than just the golf.
The beach behind the dune is wide and, because the south end is residential rather than commercial, quiet compared with the Fernandina accesses.
The trade-off
You are a ten-to-fifteen-minute drive from downtown Fernandina Beach, where the island's independent restaurants, bars and history are. Resort dining is extensive but resort-priced, and there is no walkable restaurant district outside the gate — the nearest independents are at the Plantation and Palmetto Walk shops.
If your trip is about Centre Street, the museum, the shrimp docks and eating somewhere different every night, a downtown inn is the better base and you drive to the sand instead.
Practical notes
Room counts, restaurant line-ups, resort fees, pet policies and golf packages all change, and we have not confirmed the current position — check with the property directly. We do not publish nightly rates: they move daily and any figure here would be wrong by the time you read it.
