Is there parking at Main Beach on Amelia Island?

By Kaden Ewald, Editor Last updated How we verify

Key facts

Yes. Main Beach Park has a free paved lot, along with restrooms, a boardwalk and seasonal lifeguards — the most facilities of any access on the island. It is also the busiest, and the lot fills on summer weekends and festival days.

Main Beach Park, at the eastern end of Sadler Road, is the island's front door to the Atlantic and the access with the most infrastructure.

What we have confirmed

  • Free paved lot — no meter, no permit
  • Restrooms
  • Boardwalk over the dune
  • Seasonal lifeguards — the only access we have confirmed as guarded
  • Playground and picnic tables

The trade-off

Everything that makes it convenient makes it busy. Summer weekends, holidays and any festival day will fill the lot, and the beach either side of the boardwalk is the most populated stretch on the island.

If the lot is full

The island has thirteen miles of beach and a lot of it is quiet:

  • North Beach — street parking, no restrooms, far quieter.
  • Seaside Park — free lot, restrooms, boardwalk, less traffic.
  • Peters Point Beachfront Park — county park south of the city with a free lot and restrooms.
  • Burney Park at American Beach — free lot, restrooms, boardwalk, and the quietest of the parks with facilities.
  • The numbered Fletcher Avenue accesses — street parking only, and the fastest way onto empty sand if you do not need facilities.

Time your visit by the tide, not the clock

On a beach this flat, a 6 to 7 foot tidal range moves the waterline a long way. At low water there is a wide expanse of hard sand; at high water on a narrow access there is very little. Check today's tides before you commit to a stretch of beach — it makes more difference than which access you pick.

Every access compared on parking, restrooms, dogs and crowds is on our beaches page.

What backs this answer: Our verified beach records in src/data/beaches.json (Main Beach Park, Burney Park, North Beach, Seaside Park and Amelia Island State Park are confirmed).
