Is there a fishing pier on Amelia Island?
Key facts
Yes, two. The Fort Clinch State Park pier sits at the island’s north end inside the state park, and the George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier crosses Nassau Sound at the south end — a former road bridge converted to a pedestrian fishing pier.
Both piers are at the ends of the island, and they fish differently.
Fort Clinch pier, north end
Inside Fort Clinch State Park, reaching out into Cumberland Sound where the St Marys River meets the Atlantic. Deep, fast-moving water with a lot of structure — the sort of place where what you catch depends heavily on the tide. Park entry applies; the state park publishes its own fees and hours and we do not republish figures we have not confirmed.
It is also the best land-based vantage point on the island for scanning offshore in winter, when right whales are calving.
George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier, south end
The old A1A road bridge over Nassau Sound, kept as a pedestrian fishing pier when the new bridge was built beside it. It is long, it crosses a genuine tidal inlet, and the current running under it on a big tide is serious. Managed as part of the state park system alongside Amelia Island State Park.
What you need
A Florida saltwater fishing licence is generally required for shore and pier fishing, with exemptions that are worth checking against FWC directly rather than against a guide. Licences are sold online and at local tackle shops.
Fishing without a pier
Surf fishing works the length of the island, and the sandbars exposed at low tide open up water that is unreachable at high. Inshore charters run for redfish, trout and flounder in the sound and the creeks; offshore boats go out of the harbour marina. Our fishing guide lists the operators, each with an address, phone number and website we confirmed — and no hours or prices, because we have not confirmed those.
The current matters more than the height: the moving water either side of a tide change is when the bait moves. Slack high and slack low are the dead hours. See tides.
