Skydiving on Amelia Island

By Kaden Ewald, Editor Last updated How we verify

Key facts

One tandem skydiving operation jumps over the island, and one operator flies powered paragliders — different sports, listed together because both put you above a 13-mile barrier island with the marsh on one side and the Atlantic on the other.

Amelia Island is about thirteen miles long and narrow, which is the whole reason to look at it from above: you can hold the entire island in one view. The Atlantic down one side, several thousand acres of salt marsh and the Intracoastal down the other, Fort Clinch and the St Marys inlet at the north end with undeveloped Cumberland Island beyond it, and the Talbot islands trailing south.

From the ground you experience this place as a beach, or a downtown, or a marsh trail. From a few thousand feet it reads as one object — a sandbar with a town on it, which is exactly what it is.

Two different sports

Tandem skydiving. One operator, based on the island at Bailey Road, listed below.

Powered paragliding. A second operator flies PPG — a motor on your back and a wing overhead, taking off and landing on foot, flown low and slow. It is not skydiving and we are not going to blur the two. If low-and-slow along a beach at first light appeals more than freefall, that is the one to ring.

What actually cancels a jump

Not rain, usually. Wind and cloud. This is a coast with a sea breeze that builds through the day and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms from June to September — September is the wettest month here at 7.19 inches across about nine rain days. Morning slots are more likely to fly and more likely to be smooth. Build slack into the day and do not book the jump for the afternoon you also need to catch a flight.

Winter is cold at altitude in a way the ground temperature will not warn you about. January averages a high of 64°F at sea level; several thousand feet up, dress for considerably less.

What we have not confirmed

Prices, weight limits, age minimums, jump altitude, licensing, which airfield the aircraft operates from, and the cancellation policy. Every one of those matters and none of them is something we will guess. Ring.

If the view is what you are after and the jump is not, boat tours give you the marsh from the water and sunrise and sunset covers where the light is.

We publish no prices, times or durations for any operator on this site, because we have confirmed none. The address, telephone number and official website below were checked against each operator’s own listing on 10 September 2026 — ring them.

Frequently asked questions

Can you skydive on Amelia Island?
Yes. One tandem skydiving operator is based on the island, on Bailey Road, and is listed below with a telephone number and website. We hold no confirmed prices, weight limits, age minimums or jump altitudes — those are exactly the things to ask on the telephone.
What do you see when you skydive over Amelia Island?
A 13-mile barrier island end to end: the Atlantic on one side, several thousand acres of salt marsh and the Intracoastal on the other, Fort Clinch and the St Marys inlet at the north end with undeveloped Cumberland Island beyond it, and the Talbot islands to the south.
Is powered paragliding the same as skydiving?
No. Powered paragliding is a motor and a wing you take off and land with, flown low and slow; skydiving is a jump from an aircraft. Both operators appear on this page because both fly you over the island, but they are separate sports with separate rules and separate risks.
