Key facts

An oceanside restaurant and tiki bar on South Fletcher Avenue in Fernandina Beach, a short walk from the sand, with outdoor decks, live music and the casual beach-grill register — the ocean-side counterweight to the downtown waterfront rooms.

Sliders is on South Fletcher Avenue, the oceanside road, which makes it one of the few places on Amelia Island where you can eat within a short walk of the Atlantic.

Why that is unusual here

Amelia Island's restaurants with real water views are almost all downtown, on the Amelia River — the island's western side. The ocean side is residential and hotel development behind a dune line, and the dune blocks the view from almost everywhere.

So oceanside dining here is generally beach-adjacent rather than beach-facing: you walk over from the sand, you sit outside, you are a minute from the surf, but you are not looking at it from a table. Sliders is squarely in that category and it is one of the better versions of it.

What it is

A casual beach grill with outdoor decks, a tiki-bar element, live music on a regular schedule, and a menu in the fried-and-grilled coastal register: seafood, sandwiches, baskets, tacos, burgers, frozen drinks.

Nobody comes here for the cooking to be surprising. They come because it is outdoors, near the water, loud in a pleasant way, and it takes a sandy family without complaint.

When it works

Straight off the beach. This is its whole function. Main Beach Park is a short drive north and the Fletcher Avenue numbered accesses are within walking distance, so lunch or an early dinner here means not changing out of what you have been wearing all day.

Late afternoon. Sea breeze, live music starting, sun still up. This is the island's best version of a beach bar in the hour before dinner.

With children. Outdoor space, no formality, and a menu everyone finds something on.

What it is not

A sunset room. The island faces east — the ocean side gets the sunrise, and the sunset happens over the river downtown. If sunset drinks are the plan, the waterfront rooftops at the bottom of Centre Street are where that happens.

And it is not a quiet dinner. On a Saturday evening in season with music playing, it is a party. That is the offer.

Practical notes

Parking along Fletcher Avenue is limited and the surrounding streets are residential with enforced restrictions — read the signs. If you are staying oceanside, walk.

Hours, the music schedule, the menu and the price band are all unconfirmed here. Oceanside businesses are more seasonal than downtown ones, and the shoulder seasons can mean shorter weeks. Check before you rely on it.

Nearby

Main Beach Park for the amenities beach, Seaside Park at the end of Sadler Road, and the Fletcher Avenue numbered accesses for quieter sand. The Egans Creek Greenway is immediately inland for a marsh walk, and downtown is five to eight minutes west.
