A downtown Fernandina Beach restaurant on Centre Street doing modern American cooking, and one of the most searched-for restaurant names on Amelia Island — a good indicator of how much attention it draws relative to its size.
Downtown Fernandina Beach festival
A chamber music festival on Amelia Island running annually in the spring, with concerts in island venues including churches and historic buildings — and an unusually serious classical programme for a barrier island of this size.
A chamber music festival is not what most people expect from a Florida barrier island, which is part of why this one is worth knowing about.
An annual spring festival of chamber music, with concerts spread across several weeks rather than concentrated into one weekend, held in island venues — historically including churches and historic buildings in Fernandina Beach as well as resort spaces.
Chamber music suits those rooms. A nineteenth-century church in a National Register historic district is a better acoustic and a better setting for a string quartet than a purpose-built hall, and the festival has leaned on that.
Spring is Amelia Island's best season on paper — warm days, low humidity, before the summer heat and the afternoon thunderstorms arrive.
It is also the busiest stretch of the island's calendar, which is the trade-off. The Concours d'Elegance is in March and the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival is in early May, and both fill the island's accommodation months ahead. A chamber music festival spread across several spring weeks will overlap one or the other.
Check your dates against both before booking, and book early.
Individual concert tickets and passes are sold by the festival, and the arrangements change annually.
Check the venue for each concert before you drive. The island is thirteen miles long and the festival uses venues at both ends of it; downtown and the south end are fifteen minutes apart in normal traffic and longer during another event.
Dinner before or after needs a reservation downtown, particularly Thursday through Saturday and during any overlapping festival week.
Dress is generally smart-casual for this sort of programme, but the venue matters — a church concert and a resort event are different rooms. Ask if it concerns you.
Set annually by the organisers. We have not confirmed the current year's programme, dates, venues or prices, and we do not publish any we have not verified. Check the festival's own information before planning travel around it. See our editorial policy.
Spring is the right season for everything on the island. Fort Clinch before the heat arrives. The Egans Creek Greenway at first light, when the wading birds are working and the alligators are visible from the trail. A kayak trip into the salt marsh — spring is one of the two best paddling seasons here. And the beach, with the water still cool enough to be bracing.
Sounds on Centre, a first-Friday street music event downtown in season. The Fernandina Beach Songwriters Festival. The Amelia Island Jazz Festival in the autumn. And live music in several downtown rooms most weekends year-round.
For a town of thirteen thousand people, that is a real programme rather than a token one.
We have not yet confirmed this year’s dates with the organiser, so we are not publishing one. Recurrence pattern: Annually in the spring, with events across several weeks. Check the organiser’s own listing before booking travel — festival dates on Amelia Island move by a week or more between years.
Nothing confirmed on our calendar for this festival yet. Our events feed only carries dates we have checked against an organiser or an official calendar.

A book festival on Amelia Island held annually in the winter, bringing authors to the island for talks, panels and signings, with an author-in-schools programme — and it lands in the island's quietest and cheapest month.
